Mestaria Gallery Unveils Magnus Gjoen’s Visionary Exhibition: “Reimagining Time and Tradition”

Mestaria Gallery is excited to present “Reimagining Time and Tradition,” a groundbreaking exhibition by renowned contemporary artist Magnus Gjoen. Running from 26th September to 16th October 2024, this exhibition explores the intersection between historical art and modern aesthetics.

Magnus Gjoen

Born in London with Norwegian roots, Magnus Gjoen has developed a signature style that merges influences from street art, pop culture, and fine art techniques. Drawing inspiration from Renaissance and Baroque traditions, Gjoen reinterprets classical motifs with a fresh, modern twist, challenging conventional notions of beauty. His work invites viewers to see familiar symbols in new and unexpected ways. Having studied fine art and fashion design, Gjoen’s unique vision was shaped by his career at Vivienne Westwood, where his exposure to fashion spurred his desire to push artistic boundaries. This blend of fashion and fine art led him to pursue contemporary art full-time, crafting works that fuse historical symbolism with futuristic vision.

YOU AND I ARE EARTH

“Reimagining Time and Tradition” showcases Gjoen’s ability to blend classical elements with modern design, creating a striking contrast between the old and the new. The exhibition features a wide range of works that bridge different eras, creating a dialogue that reshapes our understanding of art across time. His approach emphasizes how traditional motifs can be revived and transformed, offering a dynamic fusion of past and present.

Standout works include “You and I Are Earth,” a symbolic piece that evokes emotional depth through the imagery of an expanding heart, representing growth and transformation. Another key piece, “The Morning After The Night Before,” contrasts classical and contemporary scenes, playing with themes of stillness and movement to create an intriguing narrative of aftermath and rediscovery. The piece encourages viewers to constantly shift their focus, uncovering new perspectives each time they engage with the work.
