The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) is making a strong showing at the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) 2025, which runs from December 4–13. Through its Film Fund, cinematic programs, and cultural initiatives, Ithra underscores its sustained commitment to empowering Saudi filmmakers and elevating the Kingdom’s creative voices.

Ithra’s participation this year spans five key pillars: premieres of Ithra-funded films, the Ithra booth at the Red Sea Souk, the Anti-Cinema press conference, the “Meet the Saudi Funders” panel, and the Ithra Film Fund Award.
Ithra Booth at the Red Sea Souk – Open as of December 6
The Red Sea Souk opened on December 6, with Ithra’s booth highlighting a diverse selection of works developed through its initiatives. Visitors can explore narrative and documentary films, VR experiences from the Creative Solutions residency, and projects supported by the Ithra Film Fund and Ithra Content Initiative. The booth serves as a hub for filmmakers and industry stakeholders to connect and discover Ithra’s role in shaping the Kingdom’s emerging film ecosystem.

Festival Premieres of Ithra-Funded Films
Ithra-backed films are taking center stage at the festival. Hijra, directed by Shahad Amin, premiered on December 6, followed by screenings of Sara Balghonaim’s Irtizaz on December 7 and 8. Both directors represent the powerful and diverse cinematic perspectives of Saudi women redefining contemporary storytelling.

Anti-Cinema Press Conference – December 7
On December 7, Ithra hosted a press conference for Anti-Cinema, featuring Ithra cultural consultant Dr. Tariq Khawaji and director Ali Saeed. Supported by the Ithra Content Initiative, the project recently received the Jury Award at the Cairo International Film Festival. The session delved into the film’s artistic vision and its cultural resonance.

Production Market Pitching Sessions – December 7 & 8
Ithra is participating in the Saudi project pitching sessions, meeting shortlisted filmmakers and evaluating submissions within the Production Market.
“Meet the Saudi Funders” Panel – December 9
On December 9, Feras Almusharrie, Head of the Ithra Film Fund, joins representatives from major national funding bodies—including the Red Sea Fund, Yellow Camel, the Cultural Development Fund (CDF), the Film Commission, and Film AlUla—to discuss funding opportunities and development pathways available to Saudi filmmakers.
